You had been happy, you had a successful marriage, a few wonderful kids, you may have even enjoyed the work you did for a living. Now you begin to ask yourself "what is my problem and why am I experiencing this anxiety about life now"? The problem is you have reached the proverbial "glass ceiling".The practical side that is based on the fear of change that had convinced you all along that your passion and dreams had been of less importance than they really were. Yes, as I am sure you have figured out, this is a self improvement artice created to help you to break through your own glass ceiling and develop the life you really need and want at this stage of your life. Here are ten things you need to do in order to gain that new perspective on life.
1. You have to allow yourself to dream. Dreaming is good stuff. As a child you didn't have any problem dreaming. Where did your ability to imagine things and to dream about what you wanted and who you wanted to be go? When was the last time you found yourself daydreaming and appreciated it? Find that ability again and put it back to work. 2. Quit looking at other people for happiness. Look inside of yourself and increase your self-awareness. Try and find out who you are at the core. Develop and nurture a relationship with yourself. 3. Take the time to take care of yourself. You cannot focus on thriving in your life if you are in a constant mode of just surviving. Get the things done that need to be done so you can move on. Things such asmaking an appointment with your accountant, get your space organized, take care of the nagging details that are wasting your time and energy. 4. Accept that your past was what it was and move on. What is done is done and nothing you do or say can change it. Go from “why did it happen to me” to what can I do about it now. Asking yourself why is not a very empowering question. Asking yourself what do I need to do now and how can I move forward is a much more powerful approach.
5. Don't make the mistake of thinking that you are alone. It is very easy to feel overwhelmed with life. You need to accept support when it is available. If you read more self improvement articles chances are they might help you figure out some things that are bothering you. You may just find the one article that really clicks for you. The one that finally turns on the light for you. You will never find it if you don't look for it. 6. Do not forget to be grateful for the things that you do have going for you, no matter how insignificant they may seem at this time. Count your blessings. List the things that are working right in you life. Find some time each and every day to acknowledge what or who you are grateful for. The more you practice gratitude, the more you attract things into your life to be grateful for. 7. Do not hesitate to seek what you are passionate about. You still have your passions even if it has been some time since you may have really felt and listened to them. 8. You have got to keep breathing. If you are like me you don't take enoughdeep breaths. Take five right now. It will flood your body with oxygen and give you a burst of energy and help clear your mind. During times of stress we tend to constrict our breathing and thus compound the stress. I already feel better don't you? 9. You will have to take action and a certain degree of risk. Inspiration alone is not enough to move your life to the next level. The only thing that will do this is "inspired action". I am sure you are intelligent enough to see the difference. 10. Take plenty of time to have fun and do some things just for you. Take a bubble bath, get your hair done or call a friend and talk. Listen to some music. Go dancing. You get the idea. I am willing to wager that you thought this was just one of those silly articles on self improvement didn't you?
